QUIET LIFE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE OR HUSTLE BUSTLE OF THE CITY

I am going to speak for and against the two topics. First, it is pertinent to note that both the countryside and city has it own advantages and disadvantages. Most people in big cities believes people living in the countryside or local areas are people who sees less, poverty-stricken people, uncivilized and crooks. If I say I prefer the quiet life in the countryside to the hustle bustle of the city will you believe?

In the countryside you have some levels of freedom which can ever be enjoyed in the city. Freedom to walk anywhere, anytime and anyhow without restrictions is one of the bases I can advance as an advantage over the cities. In towns, there are places the common man are not allowed into. There are some streets you cannot just walk anyhow. The level of freedom in locals cannot in anyway be compared to that of the cities.

It has become a cliche and it therefore true that the atmosphere of the city is tense, bad and unfavorable compared to the fresh air which people in the countryside enjoys. In cities, the atmosphere is disturbed by smokes from industrial exhaust pipes, heineous smokes from cars and trucks and dust which has dangerous consequences and hampers some people's health. The city is busy, Yes! Noices of different kinds cannot be  inevitable. The horning of the vehicles, shouts of thugs, market bargaining, advertisement and the activities of conductors, also disturbs the atmosphere.

In cities you are prone to different problems of theft, pick-pocketing, accident, violence, kidnapping and other various human rights abuses. Jobless thugs can just walk up to you to snatch up any valuable things from you. Some will even come with arms. You just have to give them since you have no option and for the fear of being killed. Violence in various forms and manners are a part of the city. Many atimes, innocent bloods are being shed during cult members or cult-police clashes there by making everywhere unsafe. Also, kidnapping has taken different forms. When you board a bus going to area A, the bus may change direction to area B all for the purpose of using the passengers for rituals or kidnapping so a huge ransom could be demanded. The city is congested, so accident cannot be inevitable. On highways you can just see a truck smatch a car, a car or a truck jumps off lane and tumbles or a car hits a person. All these are not always part of the countryside. Everywhere is safe, everyone goes about his business with no fear.

Making it does no requires a special space or place. It is not until you go to the city before you can make headway. There are many people who are in the city jobless. They leaves their village in search of greener pastures. No greener pastures anywhere again, it has long been searched and used by people. Strategize and create one. There are quiet a number of people making it in the countryside. Though people also make it in cities because there are a lot of opportunities "over there" which infact is one of the advantages of the city but some people leaving there are still poor. They leaves little opportunities available for grabs in their localities and put in for the hustle bustle of the city. People in the countryside often see themselves often as being poor and uncivilized. As a popular Maxim has it 'wish yourself what you want people to wish you' . So people from the locals look up to their brothers and sisters in the city for provisions whereas the brother or sister may be a 'street walker', 'a fine boy or a fine girl begger', ' a jobless person'. We must learn to rethink our stances. I heard the story of a young man who leaves in Lagos. He hung out on one occasion with his friends. He was still begging his friends to buy him a bottle of Trophy when one of his sisters calls from the village to beg him to send her some money. You can also imagine. One thing we should all know is that the city is not a place where money is planted and harvested. You have to strive and work harder. Until we know this we will continue to fail where we think we are making it right.

Rural-urban migration will be a very bad enemy to food production and security. If everyone is running for the countryside then how do we want the agricultural sector to develop. Most of the foods in the urban areas today are brought and traded into these cities from local areas. There are many opportunities in agriculture today. Though you can also engage in agriculture in the cities but it will be on a smaller scale since there are no lands to farm and the few once are costly. Nowadays, most youth runs from agriculture including me since nobody wants to be a farmer while some are still passionate about it. I know of a friend. He is in his finals in the Lagos State University studying Fisheries and Aquatic Biology. He said "after my graduation from the Lagos State University I am not seeking for any white-collar job. I want to be a farmer". I took a him by his words and I know he will surely be.

Where are we coming from? Quiet life in the countryside prevents excessive spending. In the villages, you only buy what you need and not what you want. Compared to the cities where you need to buy everything. In the countryside, you spend less on foods, rent and the likes though most social services are not provided for by the government but people still live quiet, good and peaceably lives compared to the city where you spend much on food, rent, light, water, etc.

To me I prefer life in the countryside to the hustle bustle of the city but I have reasons living in the city.

JESU OYINGBO: THE SELF ACCLAIMED JESUS CHRIST

Olufunmilayo Immanuel Odumosu known predominantly as Jesu Oyingbo. Odumosu was born in 1951 to Jacob Odumosu, his grandfather was Joseph Odumosu a famous traditional healer in Ijebu Ode. He was trained as a carpenter, he served with the Post and Telegraph Department during World War II. He took up to his carpentary work after he disengaged from the Post and Telegraph Department and opened a shop in Lagos Island, close to Oil Mill Street. In the course of his work he was jailed for 6 months on the charge of debt as he constantly run at loss in his carpentary work. He attended many churches in Lagos before he claimed he received the vision from God that he was chosen as a Messiah, one who has come to redeem the world. He holds evening meetings close to his shop before his ministry began to boom. Jesu Oyingbo as a self- proclaimed Messiah founded the Universal College of Regeneration in Lagos and his personal beliefs includes liberal sexual rights and capital accumulation. It is shocking that, being a member of the UCR, one's property and partner could be taken at will by the Almighty Jesus of Oyingbo. He had on one account married a member's wife off to another member. He also married the wife of another man's wife to punish the man for maltreating his wife.

As if all these were not enough, Odumosu declared himself as Jesus Christ in June 1959 as the long awaited Messiah who had come to lead the people from darkness to light. He joins Christainity, Islam and Paganism to form his own mode of worship. In his communal enclave were, a bakery, a barber shop, a printing press, construction company and so on. It was indeed another world like the biblical Jerusalem on its own. Several inscriptions such as "the lion of Judah", "Immanuel the Christ", "prince of peace", Merciful Father", etc were on the buildings he owned on Immanuel street and that of Maryland.

   

It sounds funny that Odumosu baptize new members, not with water as done in the Bible and not with any other thing one could think of but with 9 strokes of the cane! After which the new member is free to live in the estate. He organizes a film show session every evening in the enclave and neighborhood. It was always festive like, full of pump and fanfare as everyone in the enclave would gather to watch movies with a projector provided by Jesu Oyingbo.

                                     The Enclave

Jesu Oyingbo married over 30 wives with an estimated number of 80 children. However, not all his children believed him or his religion, one of his daughter Bukola Immanuel said " I don't accept him as  my savior He's my biological father. I have only Jesus Christ as my savior".

Jesu Oyingbo really shook Lagos and other Southwest cities between the early 1970's and late 80s until 1988, when the self- acclaimed Jesus of Oyingbo died at the age of 73, just like every other man in a hospital. Every of his members were gripped in confusion. " How could Jesus Christ die on his second coming?" They wondered if he would resurrect on the third day  but till this moment, Jesus of Oyingbo has never resurrected. After his death, his ministry cracked. His children followers and his wives entered into a serious war because he left behind no will before his death. His eldest son, Olukayode Immanuel Odumosu took the matter to court and in 1977, the Court ruled in favor of his children who later evicted their father's followers living in the enclave. Today in the enclave, there are left abandoned and dilapidated buildings dominated by thugs and weed smokers. His he Jesus?

I'm Samuel Olomu. Sometimes life requires attention. The level of your attention exerted towards life will determine what is achieved by it.I want to relate my experience about " all things good to know are difficult to Learn". I would not like you see this as a show off but rather you see it in an opposite phase which will help receperate and expunge some misdoings which has become a way of doing things in our respective lives. 

I was enrolled in the village private school which was regarded as the best in the vicinity. My average parents at the beginning of every school session will purchase all the materials I needed as a student and there after struggle to pay my school fees. With all this I still find it hard to believe one of the best in my class. My performance was sometimes, not even an average. I participated in the school's entrance examination and I was part of the best twenty students out of hundreds that sat for the exam, but still not the best. I was greatly taken aback that my name could at least manage it's way to be one of the best in the Common entrance examination. I felt achieved.

We soon graduated to the Junior Secondary School where I finally realized my mysteries. There was a boy whom was enrolled from a public school in our village, his name, John. John though attends a public school where everyone believes less is taught has came second in the first term examination then in JSS 1. I will let you know that the kind of school you attend doesn't have any effect on your brain or your heights in life but the utmost veracity is that personal development is the key and also when you learn to learn what is good to know. Though very difficult but your sweats counts your success. I was greatly shocked by the success of John though I also did well to some extent. I was in the eighth position. On getting home this fateful day, my mum collected and went through the report card. Her first remark was "boy you tried". I was... Somehow I felt encouraged, then she continue to ask who was the first position in our class. I told her everything and mum and I soon began to diverge the meeting into a question and answer session. She asked; " how many heads do those people have?", " Can't you also be like them?". Her words met me at the right moment. I was sobered and I promise her to give in my possible best next time.

I began to do the secret behind everyone's success. I bethroated my books. I read all days, I set a goal, I learnt the virtue of hardwork and at last I arrived. At the end of the JSS 3 second term. I was announced at the School's end of the year celebration as the overall best student in the Junior Secondary level. My mum was very happy and pleased with this. I received my gifts and was filled with an unusual Glee and ovatory jacked m as I walk with a majestic fluant. At last I achieved my set goals.

What it takes to be great or achieved may not be easy but you have to keep on as your sweats counts your success.

My comment: The great investor Charles F.Kettering Said; "The price of progress is trouble".

I think I agree with Kattering's assessment of progress. The human association generally is based on the general notion of conflict which holds that the social order is maintained by domination and conformity. Human being in general is vulnerable to conflict or trouble in one way or the other. In drama we call it the bone of contention. Regretfully, human life is a stage of trouble and conflict and there is no way to attain progress without paying the price which is trouble.

It is partinent to state progress as the movement towards a refined, improved, or otherwise desired state. It could mean in the context of progressivism the advancement in technology, science and social organization which is as a result of direct human action i.e through activism, social contribution, or as a natural part of socialcultural evolution. Progress is often attainable by much efforts, activities and deeds of human. 

Generally, we can say nothing happens without efforts. The effort you exact on a particular thing will determine the progress it will yield and vice versa.

Let's make example of the French Revolution that began in 1789 and ended the late 1790s with the ascent of Napoleon Bonaparte. Back then, the French people wanted their freedom from the French Monarchy and the poor economic policies of king Louis XVI, who later met his death by guillotine. The concern of the French citizens to raze and redesign their country's political landscape, removing the centuries old institutions such as absolute monarchy and the feudal system which as a result caused the upheaval. The French citizens paid the trouble price. Many of them lose their lives and properties. About 2,639 people died in Paris. About 50,000 were shot , or died of sickness in the prisons but at last they achieved what they wanted . They sacrificed for their freedom and it was at last their lot.

In conclusion, nothing comes or happens without a trouble price being paid. What we should glean from the words of Charles Kattering is long suffering. Never go back at the course of achieving your targetted goal, do not give up, be insistent and the progress will surely come.

 "You must do the thing you think you cannot do"_ Eleanor Roosevelt

Today I will be changing us from the word of Eleanor Roosevelt. I will begin by saying there is Ability in disability. What you think is not attainable depends on your ability, your efforts and your agility. The best way to get things done is by putting effort. Nothing is achieve without you paying the price.

Human being sometimes gets derailed in their thinking. "I think I cannot move mountains", "I know I cannot make it", "I believe I cannot win". Our thinking sometimes limits our ability. If we believe that the unattainable can be achieved then we will perform no-mean feat but if otherwise the result will be the case. This is somehow related to the biblical teaching of FAITH which could mean believe, ability in disability, hope, etc.

There are some misconception about the teachings of faith. We think something impossible will never be impossible. Though the thing in the real sense is impossible but we don't want to break even. We leave the impossible to continue to be impossible. Put effort into what you consider hard to you. Though it may not be easy but I will let you know your effort sometimes speak for you. For example as a student who had exams and have burn the midnight candle. Even though he may not have deep knowledge about the subject but at least will be totally different from someone who had slept all the night saying "I don't know it".

Things you should glean to;

*Never give up. Giving up is not the best option for you. You can still get there.

* Put more efforts the best will surely come.

* Be wise.

Today's Charge

We don't live to eat, we only eat to live

Don't base your whole life or the whole of your income on what to eat. Even the Bible says do not make anxiety for tomorrow, for tomorrow... This may not be true in real human sense as a failure to plan will lead to a plan unachieved.

Some spend 70 percent of their monthly income on foodstuffs which ought not be so. I will let you know an unwise man spends lavishly, an average man manages but a wise man invests. And not all investors are wise because some of them invest in food 😃😃😃

TIME

There are three stages in life. Childhood, Youthful age and adulthood. My question now is that how far are you utilizing your time. In this post I will be narrating a story of a man who at a Youthful age was thinking about becoming a lawyer. He was a student of the humanities. 

Mr Jane while still in school is a vibrant, hansome and very intelligent. Though he came from a poor and humble background. He never allow this to bridge a gap between his education. He never allow his lowly background to rule his sense of reasoning. In short, he planned on becoming a lawyer. After his secondary education, Mr Jane was unable to take part in the proceeding exam of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Since his parents are poor and cannot afford sending him to the university. He braced up to work in a manufacturing factory near his house that any thing he sees from there he will save to sponsor his education. After the first year, his dream was a no-reality. The second year passes, nothing happened. Till now when he is now old with four children. What an aborted dream.

He spend all his money on food and maintenance. I will let you know; we don't live to eat, we only eat to live. The different between you and your dream is the effort you assert in achieving your dreams. If you don't put an immediate effort then a journey of 10 days will turn a ten years journey as the children of Isrealites has suffered on their way to the promise Land.

Manage your time. Time management and proper planning is what it takes achieve a set goal. Best regards.
